Susan, a mother of three young children, is the daughter of a retired Scottish Pastor, she was raised in London, England. Susan studied Law at University before having twins and then deciding to be a stay at home mom and make the most of those precious impressionable years.
In an effort to share God’s truth with her children whilst putting her imagination and love of animals to use, she started writing a series of short stories which she shared with her children.
Encouraged by her children’s enthusiasm she decided to publish them so that others might enjoy them. Each story beautifully and simply illustrates the wonder of God’s creation, starting each story with a bible text and ending with a simple application of God’s word which children are able to understand and apply to their lives. Susan currently resides in Dallas, Texas, with her family.
Volume 1- 'A' to 'E'
'The Animals of Eden' series Volume 1, follows the alphabet and starts with 'Abel The Aardvark' and ends with 'Elijah the Emu.' Each story follows a different animal named after a bible character.
Your child will find the stories entertaining and educational as they learn about each of the unique animals, their environment and the amazing gifts and skills that the Lord gave to each of them.
Each character in the story faces a different challenge which children will be able to relate too. They each learn that the stories in the bible can show them what to do.
Very simply put, children will see that the bible is relevant to their lives as much as it is to grown ups.
All the books are gospel centered, starting with a bible text and ending with a helpful note to adults on how to explain the biblical truths further to their young reader.
The stories can be bought individually or as a collection of 5 stories in one volume. So far only Volume 1 is available for purchase. Volume 2 is in the works!
Volume 2 - 'F' to 'J'
Volume 2 starts with 'Felix The Fox', 'Gideon The Gopher' and 'Habakkuk The Hamster'. Soon to be followed by Isaac the Impala and more stories, so watch out for those!
As well as being educational (because kids are like sponges and can absorb so much information) they are also entertaining for the children and simply illustrated.
The most exciting element of this series is that each book very simply encompasses a truth from a bible story brought to life by an animal character of the same name as the biblical character.
In doing so each story provides a practical example of how the teachings of scripture can be understood and applied in a very real way to childrens’ lives. They show the everlasting relevance of God’s word in our society, even to the very young, especially at a time when we need more than ever to stand on the principles and morals of the bible.
Overview of the stories in Volume 1
Abel The Aardvark
Share the story of Abel the little Aardvark, with your child, learn about how God wonderfully made this amazing animal. As he tries to do what he thinks is right to please his mother, he misunderstands and ends up disobeying her. You can introduce your child to original sin.
Its so important for our children to understand that no matter what we do, or how good our works are, they will never meet Gods holy standard of perfection. Their heart must first be right with Him. In the book of Genesis Abel understood that a life of good works meant nothing, unless a sacrifice was first made for his sins. A beautiful picture is displayed here by the bibles first ever prophet Abel, of our Lord and Savior, who is the ultimate lamb of God who shed his sins for the world.
